Personal Biography

Stan Ross comes from a long line of medics and physicians. It had always seemed inevitable that he would become a doctor, following in the somewhat immense footsteps of his father Dr. Isaiah Ross. However, Stan had different plans. During his second year in university, studying pre-med, Stan - who had also been playing baseball for the school - was scouted by a pro baseball organization that ultimately drafted him. As baseball was one of his great passions, Stan decided to pursue it to the fullest.

Needless to say Dr. Isaiah Ross was furious with Stan's choice in life, feeling his son was wasting his time with frivolous activities. There was a tradition to be upheld within the Ross family and Stan was straying from that path. The initial backlash from the choice Stan had made was strong and relentless. But, after some time had passed, Stan's father relented somewhat on his stance and grudgingly supported his son's decision.

At first, Stan's time with the Seattle Seals pro-baseball club was rough. The first 2 years was spent toiling with the Seals' 'AA' and 'AAA' minor league teams. A highly touted pitching prospect, Stan was finding it hard to adjust to the faster, more rigorous play of the higher quality baseball. It looked like Stan's pitching, and baseball, career was almost over until the 'AAA' team he was playing for hired a new manager near the end of his second year. The new manager noticed something interesting while Stan was fooling around with some of his teammates during batting practice one day. Seeing that the young player had great speed, good defensive instincts and surprisingly decent power hitting abilities, the new manager decided to convert Stan from a pitcher to an outfielder.

The move paid off and, a quarter of the way through his 3rd season, Stan was called up to the big club. Stan managed to stay up for the whole year, setting a team record that year for stolen bases at 60. Stan was also able to stay up for his entire 4th year with the Seals, helping the club to a post-season playoff berth. However, in only his second playoff game, Stan severely injured his left knee and missed the remainder of the playoffs. Though his knee was repaired fully in the off-season, his contract with the Seattle Seals' club was up and the organization - now with new ownership - never re-signed him.

Though he had offers from other clubs, Stan had a strong desire to stay with the organization that had initially scouted him and subsequently drafted him. And since the team that had given him his shot at the majors was not interested in bringing him back, Stan decided to leave the game.

His baseball career over at 24, Stan decided to enlist in Starfleet and pursue his medical career as a corpsman in the fleet. He would be the first in his family to do so. Dr. Isaiah Ross had urged his son to continue with medical school but Stan wanted a change of pace from what med school offered. The next three-and-a-half years of on-the-job training and indoctrination into starfleet life were very rewarding for Stan. Most of his time had been spent on Earth, though Stan eagerly looked towards a possible shipboard opportunity. The next logical step for Stan was the challenge of a starship assignment. The Meridian finally came calling.

Before his arrival on Meridian, Stan was fulfilling his duties at Starfleet medical where he met Malin Douglas. The attractive, outgoing daughter of the head of Cadiology had fallen into a fairly easy friendship with Stan. The two weren't dating but they were attracted to each other, flirting at every opportunity. A scheduled trip with friends to Las Vegas on an EMT conference followed by a rowdy night of fun and drinks, culminated in Stan and Malin waking up married, barely remembering the night before.

Stan suggested an annulment right away but Malin was enjoying their predicament way too much to want to do that. She gleefully refused the annulment, preferring to remain married to Stan because she was curious and didn't care what anyone else - her furious parents included - might think or say. Not quite certain himself if this was a good idea, Stan decided to roll with it and see what would come of this union as well.
